Yes that is true. You can if you would like to but you risk damage and the results you get will be sub par or wont last. Just like with most everything there is a correct way (the correct way should be employed by a professional but still isn’t always so be careful who you choose for you pressure washing work) and an incorrect way. I am going to go over the very basics of cleaning concrete with a pressure washer.

So what is the proper technique that the professionals use to get professional results? Firstly they don’t just blast the dirt away. Professional pressure washing companies have an arsenal of chemicals that they go to get the results they need for different situations. The most common is bleach. Granted the pros don’t use Clorox but it will work for a DIYer in a pinch. A bleach detergent and water solution is commonly mixed and sprayed on the surface ready to be cleaned (Make sure you know what you are doing when mixing any chemicals. Even everyday household chemicals like bleach can be EXTREMELY dangerous if not used and handled properly.). The solution is then left to set on the surface to soak or “dwell”. The length of the dwell time is determined by how dirty the surface is that is going to be cleaned but never allow the detergent to dry. Now it’s time to start washing. Professional pressure washers use surface cleaners rather than wands to clean large areas like concrete. They not only save a ton of time but have nozzles set for maximum cleaning power without risking damage to the concrete. If you don’t have a surface cleaner then choose a nozzle that offers the highest spay angle (most pressure washers come with a nozzle set that ranges form 0 degrees to 40 degree spray angle) this will offer the largest cleaning area but also the lowest pressure. Begin cleaning and change nozzles to a higher pressure only if the desired results are not achieved with a lower pressure. Only use as much pressure as need to get the job done. Anything higher has a high chance of causing damage. Never use high pressure on wood, roofing, siding or soffits.

If you are unsure about anything when you are pressure washing please call a professional like High Class Services on Houston Texas. Pressure washing is a fantastic way to clean but is also very dangerous in the wrong hands.

Not Hard (but kinda boring) Window Cleaning!

http://www.highclassservices.net/4/post/2010/04/not-hard-but-kinda-boring-window-cleaning.html

http://www.highclassservices.net/4/post/2010/04/not-hard-but-kinda-boring-window-cleaning.html#comments

Uncategorized

Who wants clean windows? ME ME ME ME ME! Who wants to pay for them? Booooo! Who wants to learn the easy way to clean glass that professionals use every day? We all do. Face it, nobody enjoys spraying a dirty window down with the typical blue glass “cleaner”. You know what I mean. Step one, spray on glass. Step two, smear dirt all over your window. Step three, finish with streaks and a lot of frustration. End the insanity. Here is the professional method used by glass cleaners around the world and all you need are a few simple tools.

We have all been to the gas station and cleaned our windshield with a squeegee and sponge combo sitting in dirty stagnant water. That is NOT what you need. Go to your local hardware store get a standard 14″ squeegee, a five gallon bucket, and a glass scrubber or a large sponge. That is all you need to buy. Now, let the fun begin.

Fill the bucket with 2 gallons of water. Add 1 tablespoons of household dish soap such as Dawn to the water. Be sure to add the soap second to reduce excess suds. Soak you glass scrubber or sponge and wipe down the window. Take a clean dry cloth and wipe dry the top inch of the class and the left inch of the glass (if you are left handed dry the right edge of the glass). Hold your squeegee vertically at the top of the glass in the dry strip to the left (if left handed hold squeegee to the right). Make sure that the top end of your squeegee is resting in the dry strip at the top of your glass. Pull your squeegee horizontally across the glass. Repeat squeegeeing making sure to keep the top one to two inches of your squeegee in the dry area as to prevent streaking. Once the entire pane has been squeegeed off, wipe all of the edges and the frame with a clean dry cloth or chamois to remove any excess water. Now step back and take a look. You will be amazed at how clean your window is and most importantly how easy it was to do.

If you have high or other hard to reach windows that are potentially dangerous to access I do recommend that you call in a professional like High Class Services in Houston Texas. Clean windows are nice but not breaking bones is even better.

Not Another Boring Cleaning Blog!

http://www.highclassservices.net/4/post/2010/04/first-post.html

http://www.highclassservices.net/4/post/2010/04/first-post.html#comments

Uncategorized

Hello blog world! This is my first attempt at blogging so try to bare with me. Well here we go, without further ado.My name is Jesse Garton. I am the owner of [...]

Hello blog world! This is my first attempt at blogging so try to bare with me. Well here we go, without further ado.

My name is Jesse Garton. I am the owner of High Class Services in Houston Texas. High Class Services is an exterior property cleaning company. By exterior property cleaning I mean primarily window cleaning, pressure washing and gutter cleaning. Those are our three main services and future blog posts will revolve around those staple services for the most part. I do also offer bug and solar screen replacement and repair but mainly as an add on service to my existing customers. I’m sure I will touch on that at some point as well.

Well, anyway, the reason that I am starting this blog is to describe my struggles and experiences as an entrepreneur (and I use that term loosely). Also to help other professionals and do-it-yourselfers learn safe, easy and effective methods of cleaning windows, pressure washing, soft house washing, gutter cleaning and any other miscellaneous tasks that I may come across in my line of work. I may also throw in some random, non-work related post her and there to try to keep some readers interested (after all, how entertaining can cleaning be). In fact I can guarantee that that will happen so keep checking back! I really think you will enjoy.
